AIP No-Cook Not-Tomato Sauce (Paleo, Whole30)
Missin’ tomato sauce on the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol? My no-nonsense AIP No-Cook Not-Tomato Sauce is here to save the day.
Great news…it’s also Whole30 friendly, nightshade-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free!
My favorite part about this sauce, other than how close it tastes to the real thing, is that you don’t even have to cook it. As long as you have some pre-cooked beets and also some pre-cooked pumpkin puree on hand, you won’t even have to lift a pot or pan!
You simply add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender and puree. Then next you’ll store the sauce in airtight jars with BPA-free, non-corrosive lids (or your favorite food-safe containers) in your fridge or freezer until ready to use in your favorite recipes!
Read on to learn how to skip the canned tomato sauce and live it up without a nightshade in sight with this tasty and fast staple recipe.
JUMP TO RECIPE BLOCKWhy go tomato-free with your tomato sauce?
First off, I’m sorry I waited this long to share my recipe here with you on its own! I do have a balsamic version of this sauce in my yummy 30-Minute AIP Veal Parmigiana that is easy as well. But now you can access just the tomato sauce and print it out or bookmark to keep on hand – right here.
Nightshades are one of the inflammatory food groups that are temporarily eliminated on the Paleo AIP. They contain lectins and other properties that can be harsh on an already-leaky gut (and may in fact be a contributing factor to gut permeability).
So while you’re doing the elimination phase of the protocol, nightshades are off the plate for just a little while. The good news is that, in the meantime, this tomato sauce will fill in the tomato-less gaps in your favorite recipes.
What to serve your AIP No-Cook Not-Tomato Sauce in:
Spaghetti with meat sauce (these cassava spaghetti noodles are BOMB for making anti-inflammatory spaghetti)
Served over zoodles (aka spiralized zucchini noodles) with a sprinkle of “cheesy” nutritional yeast
Casseroles (like this popular Italian Chicken Bake from my friend over at It’s All About AIP
Soups (use it as you would tomato sauce in Greek, Italian, or even raw veggie soups like an AIP gazpacho)
Stews (hello, AIP Irish Stew!)
Nightshade-free meat chili (check out my AIP Capsule Meal Plan that includes an AWESOME AIP Blender Chili!)
