Hey there, warriors! I’m Samantha Teague, Primal Health Coach. Before we dive in, I’m not a doctor, and this isn’t medical advice.
Today we’re diving into something that blindsides way too many of us – perimenopause. If you’re in your 40s wondering why your body feels like it’s staging a rebellion, this episode is your roadmap to taking back control.
So how do you know if you’re actually in perimenopause?
Here’s the thing – some experts say if you have the symptoms, you have it. Period. No testing needed. But I’m going to push back on that a bit, because knowledge is power, and I believe testing your sex hormones gives you a crucial baseline, especially if you’re considering hormone replacement therapy.
The average age for perimenopause onset is 47, lasting about four years. But here’s what they don’t tell you – this isn’t uniform across all women. Genetics, environment, lifestyle, and even ethnicity play roles. Some women start as early as their late 30s, and for others, this fabulous journey can stretch a full decade. That’s why testing matters – it gives you YOUR unique starting point.
Let’s talk about what perimenopause actually looks like.
The most common red flags? Mood changes that make you feel like you’re losing your mind, sleep disturbances that leave you wired and tired, crushing fatigue that coffee can’t touch, and periods that become completely unpredictable.
Sound familiar? You’re not broken, honey – you’re in transition.
Now for the good news – you have options.
First, nutrients matter more than ever. Your brain and energy systems need extra support.

Second, embrace an ancestral diet rich in animal protein. During perimenopause, you need more protein and antioxidants to support your changing body. Check out my recipe archives for lots of tasty ideas!
Third, have an honest conversation with your integrative doctor about hormone replacement therapy, including bioidentical options and yes, testosterone – which can be vital for most women.
There’s also emerging research on Kisspeptin-10, a promising therapeutic peptide that recent studies show can enhance brain processing related to sexual attraction and function, with participants showing improved hippocampal activity and reduced sexual aversion – all with no reported adverse effects. Read my research paper about Kisspeptin 10 for libido support and check out the study .

Finally, lift weights. Your muscles are your protection as you age, and resistance training becomes non-negotiable.
Here’s the truth – you don’t have to white-knuckle through perimenopause.
Paloma Health specializes in helping women navigate this transition with grace and expertise. They offer personalized hormone testing, custom treatment plans, and board-certified providers who actually listen.
Use my affiliate code PRIMALSAM to save on your first order at Paloma Health. You can consult with U.S. board-certified providers via video chat, insurance accepted, without leaving home.
Please note that currently Paloma Health does NOT offer testosterone replacement therapy as part of their women’s HRT program. I hope that they consider this vital option in the future.
Although I’m not currently affiliate with Hone Health, I have researched for a high quality provider that prescribes testosterone INJECTIONS for women and also offers recurring lab testing at fair pricing, and they seem to fit the bill.
You can review Hone Health HERE. I’d be happy to hear about your experience with them if you give them a try!
Warriors, perimenopause isn’t the end of your vitality.
It’s a transition to your next powerful chapter. Take control, get tested, and remember – you’ve got this hun!
